Aloe Lane is proud to have been awarded a 2018 ‘Best Value Establishment Award’ from AfriStay, one of South Africa’s largest accommodation portals. This rates us as a top value accommodation in Midrand, based on the consistent and excellent rates that we offer.
We were delighted to find out that we had received this prestigious recognition, and we know that we cannot achieve these fabulous accolades without the heart and passion behind our incredible team at Aloe Lane.
Afristay was founded in 2006 by local entrepreneurs Oliver Bryant and Ric Meulemans, originally named Accommodation Direct. By 2011 it had grown to encompass more than 10,000 listings across Africa – with over 100,000 visitors per month. It was rebranded as Afristay in 2017, to better reflect its identity of simple, easy online bookings combined with friendly customer service.
Happy New Year to all of our past, present and future guests! We’re delighted to introduce our new Promotions & Packages area, where we hope to surprise and delight you with a range of special offers and exciting activities. Our first promotion is already live, with ‘Two for One’ on room bookings until the end of January. You can now book a double room for the price of a single on all of our room types.
On top of this, look out for a smorgasbord of culinary experiences – from chocolate and wine pairing, to gin and tequila tasting. We are also offering Photography Workshops, courses with our Transformation Coach, and unique Dinner Experiences in our wine cellar or on the pool deck.
We recently welcomed our new therapist – Jessie Nair – who is very experienced, especially in sports massage and deep tissue massage. Or for something more relaxing and luxurious, her speciality Kahuna Lomi-Lomi massage – inspired by a traditional Hawaiian technique – is not to be missed. Have a look at our new Wellness Menu for more details on everything we have to offer.
Meanwhile, on the business side, we have recently upgraded our conference facilities, and now offer add-on packages and team building activities. So please consider Aloe Lane for your next conference, workshop or meeting. Contact us to find out more on these.
Last, and most importantly, we would like to give a shout out to all our fabulous guests. It was wonderful to meet you over the last few years, and to host you at your ‘home away from home’ – our Boutique Bush Lodge in the City. We hope you had a relaxing and entertaining festive season, and we look forward to welcoming you back to Aloe Lane.
Escape with us in 2018!
We are proud to introduce our new logo and brand identity, which adds an exciting new level of sophistication and elegance to Aloe Lane – as we continue to grow the business and to delight our guests from around the world with our unique surroundings and our personal service.
Aloe Lane is coming up for its 4th birthday (which we can’t quite believe ourselves!) and as part of that exciting milestone, we decided it was time that we had an updated brand – which now more closely fits the identity of the lodge as it has developed in that time. On that note by the way – look out for details of our upcoming birthday promotion for September, which we will be announcing next week on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
When briefing our design agency, we asked them to visit the lodge and then to recommend which aspects of the original logo they felt best represented the personality of Aloe Lane, and of course they chose the Aloe, which has just started flowering here now! This time though, it has been beautifully illustrated in our existing corporate colours of green and orange, to complement all of our current materials and our website, yet while still bringing our brand very much up to date. We do hope you agree . . .
At a wider level, we will be rolling out our new logo across the business over the coming months, so look out for new business cards, staff name badges, signage, and even a brand new brochure – which is in development as we write this!
Finally, we just wanted to say huge thanks to Lesley King from Consider It Done and Gill Prince from Contract Marketing who both looking after our marketing – in the UK and ‘on the ground’ here in South Africa – and to our design agency White Kite who created the new brand. Great job all round – we love it.
We’ll leave you will our new sign-off message – Escape with us, today!
You may have noticed that we recently updated the Booking.com award logo on the home page, as we now have our 2016 Award. We were so pleased to discover that we maintained our overall score of 9.6 out of 10 throughout the year – making us one of the most popular destinations in our area. Her are just a few of the lovely comments we have received recently on Booking.com. Click the link to read more!
“What a surprise! Lovely lodge with many places to relax, great rooms, friendly super-attentive service. Bar available, fresh milk in room, dinner available on request. I loved my stay, and will definitely be back. Thanks to all the staff!”
“A little slice of Eden in Midrand. Aloe Lane is a Five star resort. Beautiful garden and views over the fields and roof tops. The garden is filled with wildlife and overflows with birds at sunset. The bedrooms are luxuriously and tatstefully appointed. The little details, such as fresh milk and crisp white sheets are a delight. The common areas are architecturally beautiful and comfortable. Bev, Anthony, Patrick and the rest of the staff could not have been more friendly, accommodating and helpful. Breakfast and meals through the day are delicious. This is a home away from home, but way prettier than my New York apartment!”
“What a beautiful place. The lodge is truly wonderful – from the decoration to the views, everything about this place says “relax”. The staff are absolutely brilliant too. Honestly friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them to look after your needs. The room itself was very big and comfortable with a fabulous shower.”
We’re always blown away by the lovely reviews we receive, so thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write one, whether on Booking.com or Tripadvisor – where we’re still maintaining our 5* rating, now across more than 60 reviews!
We’re delighted to let you know about two new recruits for Aloe Lane, both of whom came on board earlier this year. And more importantly, both involved in making our food and beverage service even more tempting!
When our hostess Babiki departed in December to get married, we thought it might be difficult to replace such a popular favourite with our guests. Then along came this bright young man with a tongue twister of a name – who we simply call Teekay.
Always smiling and ready to chat, he can knock up a speciality coffee or an amazing cocktail with ease. He is passionate about his work and won Barista of the Year at his past workplace. He enjoys interacting with guests and welcomes everyone with a cheerful smile – why not come and see for yourself?
Vukani is a bit shy, so we’re showing you his amazing Lamb Shank instead – already a firm favourite! Vukani joined our team as 2nd chef in January, working with our Head Chef Patrick and covering the the weekend schedule. Vukani has many years of experience catering to the needs of boutique lodge guests, and he is already a firm favourite.
Working together, Patrick and Vukani ensure that our warm hospitality and home style cooking is available throughout the week for all of our guests. Bringing Vukani on board has also allowed Patrick to take some valuable time off from a busy weekly schedule!
About a year ago, we featured the new Mall of Africa in one of our news stories, which had opened just 15 minutes away from the Lodge. This fabulous shopping centre has now become a firm favourite with our guests and is becoming more established, with more new stores opening all the time.
The Mall of Africa has over 300 shops across five areas – Forest Walk, Desert Court, Great Lakes, Crystal Court and Oleum Court. Between them, these different parts of the centre host many international brands including well-known names such as Paul Smith, Adidas, Nine West, Swarovski, Geri Webber, Timberland, Bobbi Brown, Lacoste, Armani, H&M, River Island, Pandora, Hugo Boss, Guess, Jo Malone, Hackett of London, Hamleys and Versace. What more could you ask for?!
Even closer to home, we now also have our new regional shopping centre, Kyalami Corner – which is just 2km away and opened in April. This features more local brands including Woolworths Food, Checkers, Clicks and MICA, plus a 3,500m² Virgin Active gym!
But if you prefer to eat a few calories rather than burn them off, then Kyalami Corner also offers a huge choice fabulous restaurants including Jackson’s Real Food Market, The Baron, BBQ Workshop, Piza e Vino, Ginger Boy, Bunny Chow, Salsa Mexican Grill, Mugg & Bean and Hello Tomato.
It certainly looks like it’s going to be a real attraction for locals and visitor alike – where people want to shop, eat and enjoy the incredible variety, luxury and atmosphere that the centre offers.
