As ever, we have loads going on in the area over the coming months – especially with Christmas on the horizon as well. So if you’re planning a visit, we thought you might like some more details on a few of the key events – and on some of our more regular local activities. But if you don’t have a visit to Aloe Lane booked already, it’s definitely time to start thinking about one!

cycle-challengeThe Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge

This is the 20th year of Johannesburg’s biggest cycling event – the 947 Cycle Challenge – which takes place on Sunday 20th November at Riversands Commercial Park. It will be a great day out for everyone, whether you’re taking part or just watching the action! This event involves shutting down some of the busiest roads on the continent, to give participants the opportunity to ‘take over the city’, on two wheels – so for information on road closures, please click here.

Christmas Lights and Carols at the Peermont D’oreale Grande Hotel

the-garden-of-lights-300x295The Emperors Palace invites guests into the Garden of Lights! Featuring colourful Christmas lights and characters, this spectacle is specially designed as a great night out for families, with a variety of funfair rides – such as jump and smile, break dancer, freeway fantasy, a helter skelter and the ferris wheel.

There will also be stalls selling food and drinks – and all proceeds go to charity. The light show will take place each evening every half hour from  7pm – with the last show starting at 9.30pm.

Cirque Éloize iD at the Teatro at Montecasino

cicrque-eloizeThis show has been enjoyed over the past seven years by more than a million spectators in almost 100 cities worldwide. It’s a high-energy blend of circus arts and urban dance – a production for the young at heart, featuring an inspiring soundtrack and innovative video projections. Acrobats, aerialists, a trial biker, and hip hop and break dancers come together to create a microcosmic society where two groups celebrate everyone’s distinct identity.

The Great Moscow Circus at Montecasino

Taking place in the Big Top tent, the show features clowns, acrobats, daredevils, aerial artists, balancers, showgirls and more – and is supported by a live circus band.

Robot Expo at Killarney Mall

BryanstonThis operates every Thursday and Saturday from 9am to 3pm, and for the past 39 years has been a haven of calm in the busy city – where visitors can enjoy leisurely shopping in a peaceful and scenic outdoor environment. It carries the accolade of being Johannesburg’s original outdoor market and is a place of relaxed enjoyment for the whole family.

The South African Lipizzaners

LippizanersSA Lipizzaners is a great outing for the whole family which is available every Sunday. All shows start at 10.30am at the Kyalami Equestrian Estate, 1 Dahlia Road, Kyalami – which is just a short distance from Aloe Lane Guest Lodge. All performances last around 60 minutes, and guests can then join the team in the courtyard for refreshments afterwards, to meet the riders and feed carrots to the stallions.

Market on Main on Sundays

market-on-mainMarket on Main takes place every Sunday from 10am to 3pm at Arts on Main, and plays host to Gauteng based stallholders who trade in regional food and local design. Its goal is to encourage inner city lifestyle, educate on sustainable living and a provide a relaxed creative space for market-goers and traders alike.

The world famous Rosebank Sunday flea market takes place at Rosebank Mall and offers rosebanka variety of hand-made crafts, bric-a-brac, antiques, original clothing and food stalls – often accompanied by live entertainment from local artists!

Thank you so much to everyone who has written us such lovely reviews – both on Booking.com and also TripAdvisor, where we continue to retain our Five Star rating.

Expedia LogoThe other exciting thing to tell you about booking-wise is that we are now also on Expedia – allowing our guests even more options for booking, paying and reviewing our beautiful guest lodge. Find out more on that here. Since going live in April we’ve already had bookings from as far afield as China!

Mall of Africa LogoCloser to home, one recent development in the local area which is definitely worth mentioning is the opening of the Mall of Africa just 15 minutes away from Aloe Lane, giving our guests an exciting new alternative to Sandton City complex.

At over 130,000 square meters it is Africa’s largest single phase shopping mall – and is part of the ambitious ‘Waterfall’ city development. The Mall of Africa has over 300 shops, including seven flagship stores, covering both local and international brands. It is split into five areas known as Forest Walk, Desert Court, Great Lakes, Crystal Court and Oleum Court.

LipizzanersFor the whole month of June we’re offering a special Father’s Day promotion. Two people sharing an Executive Suite or higher – for one or more nights on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday – will receive two complimentary tickets to the unique and exciting SA Lipizzaners show, which takes place on Sunday mornings at the nearby Kyalami Equestrian Estate.
